After BYU Law I moved to Knoxville and spent six years practicing estate planning and asset protection alongside my father, Philip Bryce — CPA, UT Law, co-author of Generations and Strictly Business, past president of WealthCounsel’s Mid-South Forum. High-level trust work, elder law, Medicaid planning. I moved to Utah in 2011, founded Bryce Law, and have been practicing here since.
Over fifteen years in Utah I’ve handled personal injury, criminal defense, family law, and probate — tried cases to verdict before judge and jury, argued before the Utah Court of Appeals, and handled hundreds of matters across Utah’s courts. My federal practice includes civil rights work under §1983.
Other background
I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I served a two-year mission in Oakland/San Francisco, California. I went to BYU twice — Marriott School for finance (full-tuition scholarship, BYU Young Ambassadors), then J. Reuben Clark Law School (academic scholarship, first place oral advocacy, first place negotiations, trial advocacy team). Before law school I was performing internationally with the Young Ambassadors; after law school I was in Knoxville doing estate planning. As a law student I spent five weeks in Uganda drafting wills for AIDS patients through TASO — over 250 wills, pro bono, with translators.
I also hold a Series 65 as a registered investment advisor through Portside Wealth Group. In asset protection work, the legal structure and the financial plan have to fit together. Having both licenses matters.
Outside work
I co-founded Jericho Road during my Young Ambassadors years — a vocal group that has performed internationally. Outside the office I enjoy the outdoors Utah has to offer — from hiking in Bryce Canyon (yes, named for the family) to skiing the Wasatch. I play pickleball and try to spend as much time outside as the docket allows. The family motto is Fuimus — Latin for “We have been.” It’s a Bruce clan thing.
On hiring an attorney
This is a small firm by design. When you call, you’re calling me. When your trust is drafted, I drafted it. I know my clients because there aren’t layers between us. That’s a choice, not a limitation. If you want to find out whether I’m the right fit for what you’re dealing with, book a consultation below.
